Hope for Youth Uganda

Community Development Programs:

Grandmothers and Nutrition

Celebrates the vital role grandmothers play in nurturing our community’s children and youth. Through storytelling, intergenerational activities, and knowledge-sharing, grandmothers pass on wisdom, traditions, and life skills that strengthen community bonds. The program also supports grandmothers’ health and well-being by promoting nutrition, hygiene, and small vegetable gardens, empowering them to care for themselves and others. By valuing their contributions and fostering meaningful connections with young people, the program creates a cycle of learning, care, and respect across generations.

Health & Wellness Programs

Disease Prevention and Management: Identifying and managing endemic and lifestyle conditions such as malaria, TB, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and hypertension.

First Aid and CPR: Equipping workers with emergency responses and examining skills.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH): Teaching households about safe drinking water, proper sanitation and hygiene practices.

The CHWs conduct routine grassroots outreach to mothers and grandmothers, promoting wellness practices directly inside family households.

Water

Water is one of the basic necessities of life. Safe water is especially critical for children, who are the most vulnerable to water-related diseases. H4YU strives to provide potable water and adequate sanitation to decrease illnesses, improve health, and lessen the burden on women and children by reducing the distance to water collection points. This is done through drilling new water wells (pump wells), repairing traditional community existing wells, developing spring and rainwater catchments, and providing water storage.

A pump well, located on school premises, provides clean drinking water to the school and the community.

Outreach

Community-Led Approach

Hope for Youth Uganda promotes its outreach and support
programs through community-led campaigns, grassroots
sensitization and peer-based engagement. We ensure maximum
local impact by utilizing sports, music, dance and drama to involve marginalized youth and other community members/households.

Grassroots Education Campaigns: We conduct direct household outreach to our children’s mothers and grandmothers + guardians, promoting essential health practices like hand-
washing with soap after using the latrines, drinking boiled water
and proper child nutrition.
The “You Matter” girls” club connects teen schoolgirls and
community young mothers, offering them a safe forum to
express opinions, discuss critical life topics and build confidence

Partnership

In partnership with International Health Education for Local Progress (IHELP), Hope for Youth Uganda trains Community Health Workers (CHWs) to deliver life-saving health education and preventive care to rural, vulnerable populations of Nama and Kyampisi sub-counties.

Our comprehensive training equips local health workers and teachers to act as first responders, educators and advocates within our community. These CHWs are trained to address a wide array of vital topics including, Maternal and Child Health: Improving basic care for pregnant women, young mothers and infants.
